I just uploaded “PROPA Radio - 14 May 2012” to www.mixcloud.com - listen now!
Stream: Chaos In The CBD - Dusty Sundays EP Promo Mix [AMA004]
Finding themselves secluded from contemporary clutter, our trans-tasman brothers, Chaos In The CBD (a moniker encompassing New Zealand’s Ben & Louis Helliker-Hales), have brought their buoyant take on house music to the Amadeus catalog.
“Dusty Sundays,” the EP opener, manipulates a 4/4 structure through bubbly textures and spacial interjections of an unknown vocalist. The beauty of the a-side is solidified in its groove, a healthy balance of atmos and sub-bass. What ‘Dusty Sundays’ leaves behind is further stressed through a-side backing “Girl Like You,” a garage infused original that pays tribute to the late, jack’n dance music of the American 90s.
The EP as a whole delves into the subconscious through “In Between,” a naturally ambient tune held together by subtle percussion and carefully textured drones. Melodic harp pieces stumble throughout the track’s almost six minute life span, building upon layers of pads and delayed chord bits.
We sought the esteemed London-bred producer Jack Dixon (Apollo/Skint) to tie the release together. Jack’s reworking does just that, a stripped-back version of the original outfitted with drifting pads, vocal bits and an overall
emphasis on atmosphere.

Minimal Wage returns to the lovely underground surroundings of one of Auckland’s longest running venues. This night is dedicated to a few things, decent music played by great DJs who don’t hold anything back and play exactly what they want and also have a bloody GREAT time in doing so!
This edition sees a couple of our favourite boys (Nergal aka U-Khan & Sam Watkins) come home for this special event and throw down a back to back set and cause a ruckus as always.
In addition, we have local underground heavyweight Matt Drake do his thing. Phil Haeder playing his soulful deep/tech house sound plus the unique and twisted taste of Tom McGuinness. Lastly, Jaycen A’mour will be putting away his ‘bangers’, taking it down a few BPMs and doing a one off classics house set (From back in the day as some would say)

Press Release: Sick Disco presents Ben UFO (Hessle Audio/UK) Saturday 21st April at Cassette 9
This April Sick Disco is proud to present the Co-founder of Hessle Audio & one of the worlds most respected and exciting DJ’s – BEN UFO.
Alongside DJ Oneman, BEN UFO is considered the most consistently freshest and most exciting dubstep/bass music DJ in the world.
As one of the co-founders of Hessle Audio he has been responsible, alongside Ramadanman and Pangea, for some of the most
varied and groundbreaking releases of recent years. Including but not limited to, early appearances by James Blake & Mount Kimbie.
Coming from the still emerging dubstep scenes in London & Leeds in 2005, his musical taste was shaped primarily by the DMZ & Sub Dub nights taking place in those cities. However as tastes have shifted and scenes fragmented, BEN UFO’s approach to the music and Hessle Audio itself has developed. He was one of the first DJ’s to break Joy Orbisons era-defining Hyph Mngo & has DJ’ed at most of the world’s greatest club music festivals, including the Outlook Festival (Croatia), Sonar (Barcelona) and countless others.
He remains one of the few DJ’s in the UK to have made an impact with a production career to fall back on, and as such his reputation is solely the result of his skill as a selector and as a mixer. He was the first DJ to play Joy Orbisons massive Hyph Mngo, only a year old but already considered a classic, and his bi-weekly slot on London’s leading ex-pirate radio statio, Rinse FM is considered by the wider scene as one of the only places to hear the most exclusive new music by both new and established producers.

Here’s a clue.
We’re three! And to celebrate we have a rather large lineup that will spread out over the entire club - back bar, deck and main room! We have the most DJs playing we’ve ever had under one roof PLUS we have a special guest on the lineup too: Mat Cant from Scattermusic & Scatterblog based out of Melbourne. More info on our page!
More about Mat.
Mat Cant has been DJing for over 7 years across Australia, settling in Melbourne in 2008 and holding down many residencies around the city pushing his wide range of sounds wherever he can.
His most notable residency is at The Late Show at Revolver Upstairs going 2 years strong now. It shows Mat is one of the most in-demand Australian club DJs out now, and continues to push the boundaries in his sets.
In the last two years Mat has become one of the go-to DJs for international supports. He has supported over 60 internationals and DJed at some of the biggest Australian festivals including Splendour In The Grass, Summerdayze, Groove In The Moo, Good Vibrations and Golden Plains.
Mat is also co-owner of the online record label Scattermusic and writer for the internationally acclaimed music blog, The Scatterblog.
Mat’s production is something he has been working on over the last couple of years and has been collaborating with some of the heavyweights in the industry like Nick Thayer, AC Slater and released his debut EP in October 09. Mat’s production has also received national radio airplay in Australia and also across the globe in the USA, UK, New Zealand and many more.
Mat’s mix tapes have become well-regarded for pushing a wide range of genres and always playing the tracks you love and will love in the future.
In 2010, Mat started working with Melbourne rapper 360 as his official DJ, on top of running his record label, hosting his radio show (Get Low on Loose Joints), DJing across the country and producing new original tracks and remixes, you can be assured to hear a lot more from Mat Cant very soon.
I was looking for Shit DJs Say but found Shit People Say To DJs. Probably makes more sense since DJs don’t talk a lot while spinning except ‘Where are my drink tickets?’, ‘Put yo hands up!’ & ‘I would totally play that song but I didn’t bring it.’

OUTLOOK FESTIVAL 2012
30TH AUGUST - 3RD SEPTEMBER
FORT PUNTA CHRISTO, PULA, CROATIA
www.outlookfestival.com
“The best four days of bass music in Europe, if not the world.” - Resident
Advisor
The success of last years Outlook paid off when the UK Festival Awards crowned us “BEST OVERSEAS FESTIVAL”. Now in its fifth year, Outlook presents the most diverse and interesting line up you will find anywhere in Europe this summer!
Set in a breathtaking abandoned Fort Punta Christo, the Outlook site looks like something from another world. By far one of the most unique festival sites in Europe, Outlook is located on the northern coast of Croatia and is surrounded by crystal clear Adriatic waters. Outlook boasts the best location for sun soaked beach parties and all night raving till sunrise in the Fort. The legendary Outlook boat parties will also be setting sail with some of the most exciting names in Bass Music and Soundsystem Culture!
Those that joined us last year will remember our new additons to the festival. The Moat, The Dockside and The Harbour will all return with the same amazingly crisp soundsystems and stunning visuals as last year!
Showcasing everything from original Dub Reggae pioneers to the new school masters of electronic music, the line up is already starting to take shape and with hundreds more acts yet to be revealed, the 2012 line looks set to be the biggest to date!
Amongst those already confirmed are names synonymous with Outlook that have seen it grow over the years. Dubstep heavy-weights such as Hatcha, Loefah, Mala & Coki see their residency renewed on the Outlook lineup.
Remaining true to the origins of the music, Outlook will also be supplying some of the biggest names in Dub and Reggae this year. Far from the shores of the Caribbean, hailing from the far reaches of New Zealand, Outlook are proud to announce Fat Freddy’s Drop with be headling the Harbour Stage this year and we can’t wait. This fantastic seven piece band from Wellington effortlessly combine elements from Dub, Reggae, Soul and Jazz with soothing vocals. Perfect for the Outlook vibe.
Joining forces on the Dub and Reggae bill we find other greats such as Jah Shaka, Outlook family friends Iration Steppas and the sought after sound of Mungos HiFi. With their roots deep in soundsystem cluture, expect to see performances from Gentleman’s Dub Club who have never failed to impress with high-energy performances.
The Jungle pioneer Congo Natty will return to Outlook in 2012. As always the enigmatic performer will be accompanied on stage with many of the talented MC’s he is known for working with. MC’s Flowdan & Daddy Freddy have been confirmed for Outlook and will no doubt be backed by the dark, Dub heavy sounds The Bug.
A first timer to the Outlook but by no means a stranger to the music; a truly influential artist who defined the sound of the 90’s with his ground breaking album Timeless and prolific label Metalheadz, Outlook welcome Goldie to the stage. Other popular names in DnB like Norwiegan DJ Teebee and production partner Calyx also make their way to the stage for the first time.
As ever Hip Hop will have a strong presence. This year we are welcoming some real classic acts onto the Outlook shores; with a health of work behind him, Malik Taylor aka Phife Dog
comes to Outlook to perform tracks from classic albums ‘Low End Theroy and Beats’ and ‘Rhymes and Life’. Joining this timeless artist is another classic name in Hip Hop, representing the west coast sound, Souls Of Mischief bring the noise of Oakland in the mid 90’s. Looking now to modern movers in the Hip Hop scene we call on France’s finest beat smith, Onra who will be crash-landing for a seriously colourful live performance.
Outlook would be nothing if not for the wealth of emerging artists it brings to the rave. Pushing the now widely recognised UK sound we present an artist with releases on R & S Records, the rising star Blawan. Another artist we’re excited about is Mosca who rose to fame with his single Bax released on Glasgow based label, Numbers. Another artist gaining pace at the moment is XXXY who has seen releases on Ten Thousand Yen and Orca Recordings. In a similar vain we also bring you the wonder boy of Hotflush Recordings, George Fitzgerald.
Outlook will also embark on a rib rattling global tour bringing a taste of what you can expect from this years festival to a city near you. Watch this space!
With hundreds more acts still to be confirmed as well as some very
exciting extras, stay tuned, as Outlook 2012 looks set to blow your socks
off! HOLD TIGHT.
